Okay, so it’s winter, well sort of… it has been a strange one. One day it’s 15 degrees and snow, a couple days later its 50 degrees and sunny. Its made for a fun winter for golf. The course has been open a few days when it’s thawed out and not raining, but at Meadowbrook you can play golf any day of the year.

How’s that you say? Well I’m glad you asked! We have indoor golf. That’s right Meadowbrook has 2 state of the art, indoor golf simulators. You can play golf any day, rain or shine. We have 100 courses, including Spyglass Hills, Bay Hill, Firestone, Pebble Beach and so many more. Just call the ProShop or book online and you can be playing golf at your favorite Hawaii, California, or Florida course. And all this for just $15 1/2 hour. Not $15 per person, NO! $15 for 1/2 hour of simulator time. When you combine that with the money you save on airfare, WOW what a savings, and no jet lag!

On another note I want to take a moment to talk about one of Meadowbrook’s favorite staff members, Patty Wagner. Patty is a very important part of the Meadowbrook team. She has worked in the ProShop for the past four years and before that, Patty was the Finance Director for Meadowbrook when it was a country club. Okay…so Patty wouldn’t want me to tell you just how many years she has worked at Meadowbrook, so I won’t. I will simply say that it is going on four more years than half a century…you can do the math, and hopefully that will keep me out of trouble with Patty.

And while I’m telling things about Patty that she might not want me to tell, let me add this. Patty has recently been inducted into the Women in Aviation International Hall Of Fame! What you say? Again I say, glad you asked. Patty is a multi-rated pilot who has received FAA Master Pilot Award for 50 years of Aviation Expertise, which in itself is a great honor.  But the rest of the story…Patty is an airshow legend. That’s right our Miss Patty, sweet, quite, unassuming, Golf Staff person, is a Wing Walker! She along with her husband Bob, performed on the airshow circuit for many years. They have performed in 47 states, Canada, and South America. While most of us say we hate to fly or we fight off air sickness, Patty stood on the top wing of a bi-plane while Bob did aerial acrobatics! So, the next time you fly and you think maybe your seat is too small, or the person in front of you is a jerk, maybe remind yourself that at least your inside the plane.

That old saying about judging a book by its cover fits pretty well about here.  And the next time you see Patty, maybe say congratulations on her great honor, I know she’s my hero!

Oh and don’t tell her, but I have a video of them flying. So just ask and I will show it to you (but keep it quite, don’t want Patty to hear about this).

The other day I was helping my grandson with his homework, ok maybe I should say, trying to help my grandson with his homework.  He said they were working on poetry in English class and did I know any good poems? Hmm…yea sure, how about the one that goes, “Spring has sprung and fall has fell, winter is here and it’s colder than… it was last year at this time!”

Not sure that really helped him, but it could be applied to the fall/winter we are having this year.  I mean we were warm having an extended summer then 3 days of fall and boom, snow.  When you think about it, 2019 has been a crazy weather year for the golf course and the region.  It was a very wet May.  Then the Memorial Day tornado; we reopened July 1st and had a couple weeks of nice weather. Then hey, how about a drought?  Now it’s snow and bitter cold.

Good news!  Looks like decent weather coming up and the golf course at Meadowbrook will be open if the weather allows for it.  Even better news…you can play golf all winter long at Meadowbrook!  You may ask, “how’s that Golf Pro, we are in Ohio?” Glad you asked!  Meadowbrook has state of the art golf simulators that will be open all winter long. Yea!

You can play great golf courses like Bay Hill, Spyglass, Pinehurst and Pebble Beach.  We have over 100 courses in all.  Rent the simulator by the 1/2 hour and you and your buddies can have great fun no matter what the weather is outside.  Oh, and we have your favorite beverage available.

Also, Meadowbrook is running leagues on the simulators.  A weekly league is running until Christmas.  Then a new 12-week league starts in January.   Call Bill, your friendly Golf Pro, for more information (937-836-6353).

All in all it’s been a tough but good year here at Meadowbrook.  The course went through a lot of trials this year, but ended up in great shape and having fewer trees for your golf balls to hit.  I need to thank Mark Goodwin our superintendent and his staff for all the great work they did this year and all the volunteers that helped out after the tornado.

I think the future is bright at Meadowbrook.  There is still great golf going on outdoors and indoors!

Thanks and have a great Holiday Season.
